What Is Rhema?             What Must I Do Now ?

A Message From Peter James

WHAT IS RHEMA?

Ecclesiastes 1:18  For in much wisdom is much grief:

and he that increases knowledge increases sorrow.

                         Jeremiah 9:6  Your habitation is in the midst of deceit;

through deceit they refuse to know me, says the LORD.

Some of the documents which we have written, have resulted in the question:

What is Rhema?

It is a Greek word.

It means the spoken word.

When we say Rhema, we are meaning the direct spoken word of God.

Rhema is for the building up of the whole body of Christ, information. or instruction.

We can say that it is the Holy Spirit speaking directly to our human spirit,

as it takes spirit to communicate with Spirit.

John 4:24  God is a Spirit:

and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth

The following verse is very interesting in that it first of all speaks about

the written word,  and secondly it speaks about the spoken word.

According to this verse, ‘proceeds’ is not past tense, but rather present and continuous.

It is an error to think that the Eternal does not speak to us today.

Matthew 4:4  But he answered and said,

It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone,

but by every word  that proceeds out of the mouth of God.

When you consider it practically, you will have to admit that a living dynamic God

would want to speak to his children, His literal sons and daughters,

just as any parent does.

However, what we prefer is a set of rules and regulations to follow.

This has been the case for thousands of years.

It is a rare thing for someone to want the Eternal to speak to them directly.

However, we need to be honest, and admit that though we have clearly defined commandments,

the very last thing that any one wants to do, is to obey them.

We tend to want to do what we consider to be good and right in our own eyes,

regardless of the written or spoken direct word of the Eternal God.

An important word of  caution.

In my experience many times I have been told by others that they were

acting under the direct instruction of the Holy Spirit.

One person said that I had to sell them my house as the Holy Spirit wanted them to move

into this area, and my house was the chosen one.

All I will say is that I am still living in my home years later !

The problem is that often claims can be easily proven to be lies because the

words and deeds are directly contradicted by the clear word of scripture.

Sometimes I know that what was being said was just outright nonsense or even lies,

as mentioned above.

This does not mean that we should therefore throw out the baby with

the bath water, and say that the Eternal does not speak to us today.

It is not true.

The Eternal God does speak to us.

The reality is that most times we choose by conscious decision, not to listen.

When I say listen, I mean obey what we even acknowledge we have heard.

I have heard people admit that they have heard, but it is inconvenient for them to obey.

God must find another way, is what they say.

Not only does the Eternal speak to us today,

He earnestly desires that we listen and not spend all our time

in one way conversation, making demands.

The fact that we are being told that the end time gospel is the matter

of telling people about Rhema, simply means that we have to realise that when we are saved,

which is born anew, the Godhead takes up residence in us and requires

that we listen to Him and obey.

This is the ‘good news’.

If we do not do this, we are no different to the other billions on planet earth.

This communication can be in a number of ways,

such as direct hearing, or a still small internal voice.

1 Kings 19:12  And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire:

and after the fire a still small voice.

13  And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle,

and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave.

And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?

Some think that the goal is their intellectual understanding of some minute

scriptural detail and law keeping of one sort or another.

This is not true.

John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them you think you have eternal life:

and they are they which testify of me.

40  And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

We, therefore need to be aware that the enemy would use our minds and our emotions

to try to confuse us.

If we are operating in the body of Christ, as we should, then sharing Rhema,

will help to ensure that what we are doing is really of the Eternal,

and not simply our opinions.

At this critical time in earth’s history we need the direct word of God just to survive.

We will not find this written in the bible.

For example:

Some of the people who did not go to work in the Twin Towers on Sept 11 2001,

due to the still small voice which told them not to go, survived.

Those who went perished.

This is going to become more pertinent as the days pass.

Listening to, and obeying the voice of the Holy Spirit,

who is none other than Christ, is critical.

2 Corinthians 3:17  Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is,

there is liberty.

1 Corinthians 15:45   And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul;

the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

Whether it is communication or worship, these activities with God are spiritual matters.

John 4:24  God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

It is this communication in whatsoever way the Eternal chooses that we mean.

Ezra 1:1  Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD

by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus

king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom,

and put it also in writing, saying..,

It is God’s communication with the prophets which we call Rhema, which has been recorded

for us throughout the Old Testament, and is the Old Testament.

These words were Rhema to Jeremiah.

Jeremiah 4  Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

5  Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb

I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

These words were Rhema to Moses.

Exodus 20:1 And God spake all these words, saying,

2  I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt,

out of the house of bondage.

3  Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

These is what John the Baptist said:

John 1:33  And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water,

the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending,

and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

This is what the spirit said to Philip.

Acts 8:29  Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.

This is what the spirit said to the Apostle Peter.

Acts 10:19  While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.

So, whether we look in the Old or New Testament we see the same process.

The Eternal speaks to His people.

This should not surprise us, as He never changes.

Malachi 3:6  For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

Additionally, God is not a respecter of persons, although you would not believe so from the way

that many of the ‘prophets’, operate today.

I do not recall coming across any one who says that each person can hear from the Eternal.

It is as if, it is only the prophets, a sort of superior person, to whom God speaks.

This is simply not true.

I am not saying that there are no genuine prophets today.

What I am saying is that the Eternal God speaks to His children and others in a way and at a time

of His choosing.

I am also saying that we have to be exceedingly careful with those who purport to be prophets,

as today there are many self proclaimed false prophets around.

Acts 10:34  Then Peter opened his mouth, and said,

Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:

We will be guided and transformed if we listen and obey.

This is how the Bride of Christ will be prepared.

From the beginning God has always wanted to speak to people.

The problem is that most times we have not wanted Him to speak to us,

as we might not want to hear what He is telling us.

Before anything was written, God spoke to man and this is recorded for us.

The bible is essentially the recording of Rhema.

The Eternal spoke to Adam, Eve, Cain, Moses, Noah Isaiah, Ezekiel, etc. etc.

At the time of the Exodus the commandments which the Eternal spoke

were heard by the people before they were ever written.

Exodus 20:1   And God spoke all these words, saying,

2  I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt,

out of the house of bondage.

3  You shall have no other gods before me………….

The ten commandments  were at first verbal commands that the whole nation could hear.

They were subsequently written on tablets of stone by the hand of the Eternal.

All the writing of the prophets came first as direct words from God,

and then they were written in books.

Exodus 20:18   And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings,

and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking:

and when the people saw it,

they removed, and stood afar off.

19  And they said unto Moses, You speak with us, and we will hear:

but let not God speak with us, lest we die.

20  And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you,

and that his fear may be before your faces, that you sin not.

We are the ones who did not, and who still do not want the Eternal to speak to us.

Today He wants this situation corrected.

It is impossible to have a relationship without communication.

Communication is a two way process.

The written word of God is complete and should not be added

to or have anything taken from it.

Revelation 22:18  For I testify unto every man that hears the words

of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things,

God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

19. And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy,

God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city,

and from the things which are written in this book.

Let it be noted that we do not claim that we are the only people who have Rhema.

Neither do we claim to be infallible.

It is a new discipline for us, and we will mistakes.

This will help to keep us humble instead of proud and arrogant.

The Eternal will deal with our mistakes.

The main point which we are making is that

Rhema is for all believers and not a select privileged few.

It also has to be shared for the growth of the whole body of Christ.

It should also be noted that because on this website we state that someone

is a servant of the Eternal God, it does not necessarily mean that we agree

with what the person says or does. As we keep saying the Eternal God uses

whom He chooses, and for the purpose which He decides.

We have to remember that God’s servants included Pharoah, and Nebuchadnezzar.

We will probably be very surprised to learn in the future that some

of the obnoxious rulers in the world today are in exactly the same position as Pharoah

and Nebuchadnezzar. I repeat, it does not mean that we agree with them or that

we are suggesting to others that they should be emulated. Sometimes we might need

to hear what these people are saying and sift the precious from the vile.

A mention on this website does not mean we endorse all the beliefs of those mentioned.

Jeremiah 15:19  Therefore thus saith the LORD, If thou return, then will I bring thee again,

and thou shalt stand before me: and if thou take forth the precious from the vile,

thou shalt be as my mouth: let them return unto thee; but return not thou unto them.

This is yet another very important reason to seek Rhema about what you read on this website.

We will always welcome genuine comments and Rhema from all our readers.

The only way out of this dilemma is Jesus Christ.

He is the only way of escape.

                 Praise the Lord.

          Come soon Lord Jesus.

                         Amen.
