When the Eternal God created an unbelievably complex,
and all encompassing
creation, He thought out the most minute details, of
how everything would work,
in order to accomplish His heart’s desires. He knew
that Lucifer would rebel, and
that later on Adam and Eve would sin. He put in place
systems to deal with that.
He was not confronted by ‘surprises’.
Angels, who were made out of spirit would not die, but
hell would be used to punish any rebellious angels. If hell did not work, they
could ultimately be destroyed. When everything else failed to bring man into
line, then Hell would be the final attempt to break man of his rebellion
against his creator. If that failed,
man could also be completely destroyed at the last
judgment.
I have explained this before.
The Eternal God wanted a very special relationship
with man.
His plan was that He would dwell in them, whereas in
the case of angels this could not happen, they were fully spirit.
He made man in His image, so that He could literally
become one with them.
Thus we have At-One-Ment.
In the case of men, he made them so that they could
die, otherwise when they sinned they would have an eternity of pain and
suffering.
Man has to learn some simple but yet
profound lessons.
1. The Eternal God exists.
2. The Eternal God has to be obeyed.
3. Obedience to His laws is not optional, but critical for
the entire creation
to operate
correctly and efficiently for His Peace, Joy, and Happiness,
to
completely fill His creation.
This does
not just mean observing certain days, or eating or not eating
certain
foods.
It is much
bigger and much more important than obeying these basic
instructions, which tell us how to live.
If we are not told what we should do how would we know?
Often we act like babies and put anything into our mouths, and slowly
but
surely kill ourselves.
These are
the critical things which are required of us.
It means
considering other people as having an equal value to ourselves.
It means no
selfishness, no ego, no pride, no arrogance.
It means
consideration and care for the entire creation.
It means
obeying and serving the Eternal God with joy, and not just tolerating
Him, because
we have no choice.
It is not a
business relationship, as most relationships are.
For many
some sort of reward, is expected, because they believe that they
are good
people, and they deserve it.
I will just mention in passing that the
New Testament, which many people accept,
but they ignore the Old Testament, can
be quite a scary book.
It is written to believers, not
unbelievers, and the world at large.
It clearly tells us the spiritual and
physical condition of believers.
It is shocking.
It is not good.
4. Is the Eternal God just being fussy by having all
these laws?
Are they
there to test us.
As I have
said they are critical. Here is the reason for my statement.
The Eternal
God is 100% Holy, and this means that He cannot be in the
presence of
sin, whether it is the sin of Angels, or of Mankind.
Man would immediately perish, just like a moth would do if
it flies into a flame,
if we were suddenly confronted by His presence, unless He gave us
permission
to come into His presence, we would die.
Man was given the organ of freewill, which gave him
the ability to make choices.
It is a physical part of every individual.
Even a new born baby makes demands, and reacts as many
adults do,
when he/she is ignored.
The Eternal God did not want any more robots.
He already had many of them with the rest of the
animal, and plant kingdom.
Christ knew that man would sin, so He decided that He,
in the person of Christ
would pay the price for man’s sin.
The Day of Atonement is the remembrance of this
momentous part of the plan of
the Eternal God.
A major problem, and it is quite a common one, is
this.
The more that we are blessed, the more we rebel
against the one who blesses us.
This is strange, and quite unbelievable, but it is
absolutely true.
In ancient Israel on the day of Atonement there was a
commanded assembly,
but additionally there were special requirements to
illustrate some of what
I have just stated.
Aaron, the High Priest, could not just go into the
Most Holy Place in the Temple any time that he felt like doing so. If he did
that he would die.
The Eternal God said that He was going to be
personally there.
Therefore Aaron was coming into His presence.
Leviticus 16:2 And the LORD said unto Moses,
Speak unto Aaron thy brother,
that he come not at all times into the holy place within the vail before
the mercy seat, which is upon the ark; that he die not:
for I will
appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat.
He was precisely told that he had to
bathe, and put on the specified linen clothes.
He had no choice in the matter.
Leviticus 16:4 He shall put on
the holy linen coat, and he shall have the linen breeches upon his flesh, and
shall be girded with a linen girdle, and with the linen mitre shall he be
attired: these are holy garments; therefore shall he wash his flesh
in water, and so put them on. (I can add - That he did not die.)
Although Aaron was the High Priest, he
had to atone for his and his families sins
before carrying out the ceremony. (I can add - That he did not die.)
Leviticus 16:6 And Aaron shall offer his
bullock of the sin offering, which is for
himself, and make an atonement for himself, and for
his house.
It is only after Aaron had atoned for
himself and his family, that he could go into
the Most Holy Place, where the Eternal
said that He was in the cloud over the
mercy seat. He could then offer the
incense.
In fact the Most Holy Place was out of
bounds for others at all times.
Leviticus 16:12 And he shall
take a censer full of burning coals of fire from off
the altar before the LORD, and his hands full of sweet
incense beaten small,
and bring it within the vail:
Leviticus 16:13 And he shall
put the incense upon the fire before the LORD,
that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that is upon
the testimony,
that he die not:
Another
translation says: If he follows all these instructions he will not die.
In Revelation we are told that the
incense is mixed with the prayers of the faithful.
Revelation 8:3 And another angel came and
stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much
incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden
altar which was before the throne.
Revelation 8:4 And the smoke of the incense,
which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the
angel’s hand.
The point is that sin cannot just be ignored.
Then there were two goats. One goat had
to have all the sins of the nation spoken over it, this goat was then taken by
a strong man far out into the wilderness,
and let loose.
The purpose of the day of Atonement was
dealing with sin, until Christ came and literally paid the price for all the
sins of humanity.
If this is so, then why bother with it
today?
Because
we easily forget the very important things, which we should remember.
I have explained previously that many
events took place in eternity,
and they were subsequently brought into
time and space at the appropriate time.
If this was not the case, as soon as
Adam and Eve sinned they would have died,
because the Wages of sin is death, and
that would be, The End.
Revelation 13:8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him,
whose names
are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain
from the foundation of the world.
The goat that had all the sins put on
it, was the scapegoat.
The other goat was killed to represent
the sacrifice of Christ for our sins.
Leviticus 16:7 And he shall
take the two goats, and present them before the LORD at the door of the
tabernacle of the congregation.
Leviticus 16:8 And Aaron shall cast lots upon
the two goats; one lot for the LORD, and the other lot for the scapegoat.
Leviticus 16:9 And Aaron shall
bring the goat upon which the LORD’S lot fell,
and offer him for a sin offering.
Here are the details of what happened to
the scapegoat.
Leviticus 16:21 And Aaron shall
lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of
Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the
head of the goat,
and shall send him away by the hand of a fit man into
the wilderness:
Note that the scapegoat was taken by a fit man it tells us
that sin is not something
with which to trifle. This goat was also
taken to an uninhabited part of the wilderness, to make sure that the sins of
the goat did not affect any people.
Leviticus 16:22 And the goat
shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land not inhabited: and he
shall let go the goat in the wilderness.
Any contact with sin, or evil spirit
driven people contaminates us,
thus the man who took the scapegoat to
the wilderness had to wash his flesh,
before he was allowed back into the
camp.
Leviticus 16:26 And he that let go the goat for the scapegoat shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward come into the
camp.
We can see that the Eternal God views
sin entirely differently from how we view sin.
We condone it,
We excuse it.
We applaud it.
We exalt it.
We even embrace it sometimes.
